Health and Harm

Health

Every Character and Creature has something called a Hit Points (HP). This number represents the amount of damage/injury they can withstand before going OofA. Characters also have Hit Dice (HD) determined by their Class that indicate how many dice to roll to determine the number of Hit Points they begin the game with.

Characters can gain Hit Points from Spells, Potions, Items, and Class Features. They can never gain more than their maximum - and can never go below zero either.
When healing a Character who is Out of Action (OofA), just start at zero and count up. That Character is now back on their feet and no longer OofA.

Resting

Characters can take some time to tend to their wounds.

Breather

When Characters rest for about an hour, they...

  • Can roll a Hit Die and regain that much HP if you have food/rations to eat. Mark a use of that food.
  • Attempt to tend wounds with an INT Test. Success restores an additional 1d6 HP. Another Character may make the INT Test, but they can only treat one person during a Breather.

Respite

After roughly 8 hours of rest they...

  • Regain all of their HP & Mana. If Characters do not take the time to hunt or forage first, they mark a use of food. If they do not have food, they do not regain HP.
  • Regain use of all relevant abilities if not Deprived.
  • Can attempt to repair equipment.

Deprivation

A Character with unmet critical needs (food, rest) after a full day become Deprived. Someone who is Deprived is Weakened and no longer gains HP/Mana by taking a Breather. After three days with this status, the Character will fall unconscious and die of exhaustion a day later.

Death and dying

When a Character is reduced to zero Hit Points (HP) they are taken Out of Action (OofA), they are unconscious and cannot make any actions. When the fight is over/are out of danger, a Character that is taken OofA can roll on the table below to see what happens to them. If they survive they gain 1d4 HP.

If the Characters lose the fight or are unable to recover the body of the character, they are lost forever!
